Looks like G. applanatum to me. Was the Trunk functional/non-functional at the point of the fruiting bodies?

Thanks, am not the best at telling the difference between these two so any help will be great. OK the trunk was completely dead (Holm Oak) (is that a indication between the two?) I thought adspersum is larger in thickeness (like in pic) and G. adspersum usually have a decurrent attachment (like in pic?) and is lumpy and domed underneath (not the case in the pic) so may well be G.applanatum?

 

Also I came across this which may be of interest “G. applanatum has a thinner crust, which can be indented with a fingernail. With a hand lens, a difference in the pore structure can be seen in a radial section; in the older parts of the fruit body, the pores of G. applanatum, become filled with a white mycelium, whereas those of G. adspersum remain empty (BREITENBACH and KRÄNZLIN, 1986). “

 

Any other ID traits?
