Im looking for experienced wood scultpters that can give me information on the best wood for carving and drying time for different wood?

I trust you have done a Google search for wood carvers and contacted them directly?

 

Or looked through the posts in the carving forum and sent some private messages to the posters?

not an easy one to answer abbie...! most woods get 'harder' as they age, beech in particular is very hard once seasoned, oak in my opinion is a great timber for resisting rot, easy to work with but very heavy to move!! softwoods in general dont last long in outside carvings, drying time is also very variable, most say oak can take up to 1 year per inch thickness to 'dry' .... long time if you have a 2' diameter log!!

 

try to be a little more direct, it is very hard to answer vague questions!!
