Hi, just a curious about the work that is done in utility.

Is utility work easier that general arboriculture and if you had to put it in percentage how much climbing do you do? i.e do you do alot from a mewp or landrover bucket etc..

also has anyone here worked for BTS and if so what are they like to work for?

cheers

Utility companies will want their pound of flesh but probably be better quality of work there ( assuming its only arb work you want ).

General landscaping/arb companies may be slightly less pressure but you could find yourself say in a spraying squad in spring and summer and fencing aswell as doing treework.( theres no guarantee this couldn't happen in utilities)

Alot will depend on how you are treated as an individual anyway and finances.:thumbup1:

lots of climbing each day, you almost have to remove yourself from being friends with a ground crew as you are almost always in front of them and still cutting unless you want to hear that productivity is low via phone call, at the end of the day it's peace work and these companies usualy get a set price for each job or section , be it a small birch or a line of 50 elm. a very them and us [factory] attitude is hard to avoid getting. thats the dark side of it but pay can be good. i much prefer subbing to private companies to gain friends and for the challenge of some jobs, good luck .
