I recently purchase a lakeside lot with a huge beautiful oak tree. The tree is approx 20 feet from the water edge. It has knotty growths all over the limbs. Can someone help me understand what this is and can it be treated. See attached pix.

Yep, If your in america and that tree is a Pin, Red, Black or Scarlet oak, then its the aforementioned little beastie:biggrin:

 

The best way to treat it, apparently is to prune all the galls off the tree and destroy, but see if anybody else pipes up:thumbup:
