Photography question

the higher the number, the larger the diaphragm opening.

To get the best effects, you need a large aperture lens (expensive!) with a low F number. Eg. F1.4 etc.

I have been typing faster than I was thinking :blushing:

Matt and Geoff are completely right: the lower the f-number, the larger the diaphragm opening

Samee thing here Steve. Nive fancy camera but don't use half of its bag of tricks BUT I'm getting there slowly.

As Rob said, turn the auto focus off and just use the manual focus instead is the cheapest solution to start with. Then start playing around with aperture settings. I found my local library had some good, easy to understand books on how to use SLR cameras and there's a heap of downloadable info on the net.

Hi steve, to get the best out of this effect you seek you need a longer focal length too, the faster the lens and the longer the lens the more it will increase the effect.

also the distance between your subject anbd the background helps, increas the background distance for greatest effect.

I find the best results using a 100mm f2 lens
