Becoming an instructor?

If anyone could give me some advice as I have been phoning around city and guilds etc and been offered many different courses. I have a small busy tree surgery company which has been operating for about 10 years mainly in the domestic sector. I have recently got my FdSc in Arb from Myerscough (online) and would like eventually to get some part time lecturing work but have been advised to firstly get some experience as an instructor ie teaching basic chainsaw etc. Do any of you do this? What qualifications do you need?

have a word with your local collage. I think you will need to start off with PTTLS (prepare to teach lifelong skills), i,m hoping to do this course in january. You may also want to look into doing your NVQ assesor award. You will probably have to get in touch with the NPTC/ lantra guys about teaching with chainsaw as well.

I have recently gone through this system. It has taken me just under 2 years to get on board. It only took 3-4weeks of my time but their is a wait between the courses and assessments. The cost is resonable in you can get on board quicker to regain some of the outlay. I had Verification first, followed by PTTLs (great course) then Lantra technical week, then C&G week and finally several days of Verifications for both C&G and Lantra. I would would advise you contact you local C&G office and ask if they have need of you and also Lantra for further advice. Good Luck.
