New Starter or Just Solenoid?

Hi,

Got a 1998 Entec CH30DH, usually works a treat, this morning for example the chipper hadn't been used for 9 weeks and started first time.

However, stopped the machine to clear a blockage went to start it again and it just clicked. I stripped of the side covers had a fiddle and now occaisionally it clicks, throws the gear but won't turn over.

Is there a replacable solenoid?

Is the starter supposed to be pre-engaged?

Want to avoid replacing the starter as I'm led to believe that they're pretty expensive.

Any Ideas/advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance, mick.

Hi MIck

Very unusaul for this to happen.

If you have had a blockage, please double check that it has been cleared properly, ensure the rotor is able to manually turn as well as the discharge tube has been cleared.

The battery may have died a natural death, check the output and you can apply a jump start to the unit.

Check the electrical connections are secure and clean paying attention to the earth.

There is no seperate solenoid to the starter motor and it is not prenegaged, if it is in contact, the bendix needs to be freed off and given a good spray with WD 40.

The contact details for the engine supplier is Universal Engine @ Chelmsford tel 0844 2092511, they will need your engine serial number to confirm the replacement if you need a new starter motor.

Hope this helps
