Snow chains

I haven't used chains on a van but I've used them on the car a few times over the last couple of winters. I don't really need them but they're good to have and only cost about £50.

 

Round here the minor roads don't get touched but the main roads get cleared pretty quickly, so there's quite a bit of running on tarmac hunting the snowiest bits. It's not ideal but the chains are definitely worth having if you want to keep mobile. I've got winter tyres this year so hopefully will just be keeping the chains as a last resort.

 

Keep them in your boot John, one prob around here is driving down snow packed hills, takes a bit longer fitting chains but I'm too old for winter sports. Yep they are a pain to fit sometimes but I used them alot for both mud/snow over the last 10 yrs.

Update..

 

Bought a set for £140 of the interweb 2 months ago and used them in anger last weekend.

 

2 miles downhill, loaded on farm track no chains, no problem. Empty going uphill no way. So put on the chains. What a difference. Turned the transit into a landy...well almost:)

got me a set of chains to keep in the van only cheepos £25 but in an emergency should have me on my way
