wood chip for biomass

Biomass prices have a long way to go before it becomes uneconomic to generate electricity. What I cannot understand is why if you have the fuel you dont use it to generate your own electricity. Even a small 250kw generator can use 5000 tonnes of woodchip per annum and generate revenue of £250k. On the continent the obvious route would be a co-operative but that seems alien to the "British" way.

I think the only communities in the UK where such cooperation is possible are the islands of Scotland (Eigg for instance) or very remote communities in the Highlands. Everywhere else, cooperation is just seen as European! :laugh1:

Good prices for Highland Forestry - Is there any material being brought in by sea to Inverness - not only wood chip but even in the form of firewood logs?

Not as far as I am aware... There is a woodchip terminal seemingly but I'm not aware of logs coming in. I dare say there will be logs coming in by invergordon by sea though..

Funnily enough we're trying to price up a log delivery by boat at the moment!
