Advice on furthering my education

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, been lurking here for a while but grateful I could get some advice on this as I'm a little unsure what I should be looking at next. Anything I do would need to be part-time or correspondence as I'm not available for full-time courses at the moment.

I got a basic level 3 national diploma in countryside management completed last year which is so general it's pretty useless from an arb perspective. Since then I've got my CS30/31/38/39 and I'm booked in for CS40 and 41 next month.

I'm not really interested in the consultancy/inspector areas at this time, I'm a very practical person. What I'm looking at now is a course which would suit me.

I spoke to Dave Dowson at the arb show last month and thought I'd like to do the new level 4 dip arb course, but I'm not sure at the moment. It does say it's aimed towards managerial type people, possibly not what I want at this stage.

I'm also thinking of just doing the level 2 cert arb and a couple more tickets which will let me get my RFS cert.

The level 6 dip arb apparently shows that the managerial/inspector people are at the pinnacle of their profession...do the practical arborists have a similar badge?

As you can see I'm a little confused. Any tips on courses suitable for the hands-on person would be much appreciated. Please ask if I haven't made myself quite clear :)

many thanks

I would say from what you have mentioned, that you now need experience. Tickets are handy but without the experience to back them up they are not much use. With what you have already you should have not much trouble in finding work. Once you have a couple of years experience, then think about furthering your education.
