Thats one impressive elm Joe. I have spent ages looking at the tree bible tonight, and I honestly think it IS a wych elm after all.....collins tree guide: 'a giant tree (to 40m)- even in coastal exposure. Bark: smo0oth and grey for 20 years; then grey brown shaggy ridges. Often sprouty.' Well that describes it to a tee. 'leaves almost stalkless'.that fits too. It might be the Golden wych elm. Keep an eye on the leaf colour as the summer progresses- they should get more yellow .
