Free Lance Climber!! Maybe???

I use a freelancer regularly because although he's expensive, he's very productive and super motivated so in fact at the end of the day he's not expensive.

My advice:

To be a freelancer you must have an obsessive work ethic.

Your attention to detail must be beyond reproach.

You must be very adaptable (to fit in with staff at various firms).

Keep strong opinions at home.

You must NEVER think that you are above other people or any jobs.

Be more presentable than everyone else and take great pride in that and your gear.

My freelancer has loads of work booked in because he ticks all of the above boxes, however, when general work demands dwindle, he is the first expense to be cut by all his 'employers'.

Having said that, if you truly excel in all the above box ticking and are not greedy with money, you could find yourself to be more valuable to a boss than one of his cheap, shoddy groundies.

Also, even when you have got loads of work booked in, devote time every week to phoning all your local firms just to remind them you're there. They may have said no previously but circumstances change.

Good luck and be safe.

totally agree mate, in addition to all the above...a freelance climber should complete every job he undertakes to the same standard as if it was his own. Your only as good as your last job...

Go for it, I went freelance 2yrs ago, fell lucky with a contractor on power lines which gave me chance to bring in the bread whilst building up other avenues which are now coming to fruitation.

Dont get lazy though, keep looking for more work even if you are choker block.

Pay your tax and NI on time, keep all paperwork receipts vans and tackle up to date.

Good luck:thumbup1:
