Problems with rhizophera...

Recommended Posts

I am having quite a few problems with rhizophera in my potted fraser nurserys this year. I spray with a fungicide called Delsene 50 flow on a regular basis but it dos'nt seem to be doing much anymore. Has it built up a tolerance to this particular fungicide? is that possible? I reckon Hama is the man for this... Thoughts anyone?

Hi Rik,

Im no Hama, my fungal knowledge is mediocre at best. :001_tongue:

But from what you are saying it does look like the fungi has built up a resistance against the Delsene 50 flow which you have been spraying on a regular basis.

Have you thought about alternating treatments with another fungicides, which may help to prevent resistance being built up?

I appreciate the sentiment, as for your problem I am unfamiliar with rhizophera and nursery production issues, but I would suggest trying a organic production method trialled alongside your affected stock. You may well find that if you consider the rhizosphere as an organism your issue will fade, and your stock will blossom.

Cheers Hama, as ever an interesting theory. I dont think it would be possible to produce potted frasers on a organic basis... I will certainly look into it though. I will have some beautiful 6,7 ft scots pine this year if you still want one. Il sort it out for you if want. Cheers J, i have been onto a farm in Denmark asking how they treat it and the rhizophera shouldnt build up a resistance to Delsene. Pretty nasty stuff Delsene. I need to sterilize the nurserys after every season with a oxidizing disinfectant. Phew... Gobfull or what...

Im with you there Hama but for the numbers we put out it wouldnt be viable. I leave lots of rough land round the edges of the blocks and use seaweed and naturally occurring fertilisers where possible, i know all that is negated by the fungicides/pesticides i use though. . .
