i will take you up there to see this tree tony as you will love it. Not just this one but there are interesting trees in the same field....a fair few old oaks and a big old ash too.:001_smile:

Final final answer : definite and 100 % Ganoderma australe on pendunculate oak, its favorite feeding "station", on which it often can feast for a long time, without killing or felling the tree.

 

In previous posts though Gerrit you have said that without the galls it is impossible to be 100% certain about distinguishing between Australe and Applamatum unless using microscopes. On this occasion I am interested to know why you are so sure? I dont doubt you at all just a little confused.:confused1:

I have never encountered this type of perennial Ganoderma brackets on a still standing and living Quercus robur being something else then G. australe, but you're right, this could be the first time :blushing: , so really and totally sure : microscope, although I would bet quite a bit of euro's on me being correct in this case :biggrin: .
