Hi guys- recently I've been looking into methods of evaluating amenity trees and have been looking at the helliwell system and cavat.

I would like to no your views on both these systems- advantage and disadvantages.

And what other systems would you reccomend me to look up?

Cheers ciaran glyde.

Evaluating them for what, exactly? You need to be very clear on what you want to achieve before you (or us) can assess the relative merits and disadvantages of any system.

Have a look at this as well:

i-Tree - Tools for Assessing and Managing Community Forests

It's used worldwide as a tool in management stratagy planning, including this country.

Ciaran,

CAVAT is useful for publicly owned trees. It's reasonably objective and can help in mgt decisions and for asking for compensation if damged or a developer asks for removal etc. Helliwell is more subjective. The best way to find out is to give them a go. Check out i-tree and CTLA for other systems.

Cheers

In what way is CAVAT more objective than Helliwell?
