Growth increments - accurate age for TPO

I'm looking at a job for a client in an area of blanket TPO 1966. The Macs to be worked on therefore should be less than 42 years old. Client has removed one of them and wants four more (in a tricky position) to be removed. The client would prefer not to have an application if he can help it due to the fact that the last application he made on trees that were younger than 42 they came along and slapped a TPO on them, for good reason in my eyes, they we're nice pines. The macs aren't great have been topped about 10 years before and were planted as a hedge, with targets and the odd rip here and there.

Can I ID the age accurately from a ring that was about 6-8 ft up the single main stem of the felled one?

If the tree was smaller than 3" dbh ( diameter at breast height) at the time the order was applied then the trees are not covered, technically speaking. If its a hedge and maintained as a hedge they may not be covered ( previous treatment shows hedging took place)

its still your choice though but I guess the council cant be that hard surely.

I'm afraid this isn't the case. An area designation will cover the trees specified in the first schedule - typically "...All trees of whatever species within the area marked XX on the map..."

There is no mention of any minimum size in the act or the regs so this will include saplings and seedlings.

The older the order, the greater the logistical and adminsitrative nightmare it becomes.
