If you got one hand ascender it would open up a lot of different set ups. But as Drew said, test it out with a HC or something with a footloop to see if you like the setup..

With a croll and a pantin you could set up a 'rope rocket' mentioned in this document from VTIO. Ive done it with HC (with a webbing sling made into a chest harness and clipped in the middle hole), croll with a short footloop as a knee ascender, bungeed through the bottom HC crab back down to the pantin on the other foot.

It is nice if you cinch a TIP, cos you can SRT up, lanyard in and switch over to your normal climbing system with your HC already on the rope.

Cheers for the link ben,Do you mean use a HC instead of the mini traxion?

I can't see why more people don't use SRT for work positioning and not just access? With a unicender you get into the tree and start work! It seems a lot of fuss to gain access into the crown and then switch to ddrt? There is the problem and safety issue with switching from one mode to another, although not if you are stropped in correctly.

With just a croll, hand ascenders etc you can only go up! It's a right pain to descend even the smallest amount!

To me it makes sense to spend some money, a lot of money! And buy a Unicender, it does so many things and has so many uses!

I have also used a floating croll with a foot loop and throw your lanyard over your shoulder and into the Unicender to self tend the system, pantin on foot.

I am trying the croll with a chest harness but I am not happy with it. Good at ascending but it can pull on the neck when work positioning even with it unclipped.
