I am new to this forum, so hello to everyone.

I am looking for seasoned hornbeam.

For many years I was the secretary of the Hampstead Lawn Billiard and skittle club and we always tried whenever possible to replace the pins in the recommended hornbeam.

Does anyone know of a source, preferably in southern England ?

Has to be turned down to a max diameter of about seven inches at the widest point.

Hi garth and APC, I am looking for hornbeam blanks that can be turned down to skittle pins that are approximately 15 inches high by a maximum diameter of about seven inches at their greatest diameter to a base diameter of about 3 inches at their base.

My club is based in london, but I have contacts in the Bournmouth area.

I need at least nine pins of these specifications and if there is a possibility of obtaining more hornbeam that fits these specifications the skittle club would be interested.

I am sorry if I cannot be specific about the volume.

We are the very last old english skittle club playing this very robust game and I appreciate any help that you may be able to provide.

I have played about with hornbeam, great wood won't split even green but I found it a problem to dry out when making some mallets - nearly there and it split open.

The only way I found was to stack it in the shade, part covered to slow the drying, and not to use it in the round but cut logs into 1/4 segments.
