Any body know what would have caused the insides of the tree to decay like this? The material in the centre is like short fibres that you can pull out completely.

Any body know what would have caused the insides of the tree to decay like this? The material in the centre is like short fibres that you can pull out completely.

 

Probably some sort of brown rot fungus or just your usual decay from wounds etc and it's turned like this over a period of years. You can see that it's heartwood decay but it's hard to pin point the exact culprit without any pictures of fungi or anything.
