lesser periwinkle taking over

I have what I believe to be lesser periwinkle (Vinca minor) growing in 2 of my coupes. It has formed a mat about 6-8 inches deep with no other plant species growing amongst it. Oak, hazel, ash and hornbeam seem to tolerate it, but I'm fairly certain I'm going to need to remove it. I'm not even sure how it got here as it isn't fitting with the parks history and it is a massive distance from housing.

I'll take some photos and double and triple check first, but what would you guys suggest to eradicate it? There must be 100m square of it and I expect that it will only expand.

Thank you!
