Makita bba 520 idling problems

Hi forum could anyone help with my makita post hole borer. I dropped it this morning and managed to crack off the air filter housing (new one on order) now it struggles to start and wont idle, could this be due to the fact that there is too much air getting in or have i knackered it??

 

any help would be brilliant
