i know syccies peel a bit when they get a bit bigger than saplings but i've noticed it a lot more this last year, i've just been to look at a 110dbh tree thats lost so much it looks like a kiddies playground around it with so much bark on the deck, the tree seems healthy but has loads of reaction growth at the base about two years old and a bit of a basal bulge, previously crown lifted by builders to about 40ft.. is it trying to tell me something? oh its TPO'd and has a couple of houses it would take out if it wanted, i originally went to look at it because it was groaning (in pain haha), that was quickly diagnosed as rubbing branches which are coming off when the wind/rain goes away along with a few dead lumps.

1st pic-its the tree on the right, 2nd pic-bark on floor from this week, 3rd pic-base of tree, i'll nip back and get better pics of stem (it looks loads worse at the other side). if i remember right where the bark had come off it was reddish and cracked into small blocks (like tiny pear bark).
