sycamore bark peeling?

i know syccies peel a bit when they get a bit bigger than saplings but i've noticed it a lot more this last year, i've just been to look at a 110dbh tree thats lost so much it looks like a kiddies playground around it with so much bark on the deck, the tree seems healthy but has loads of reaction growth at the base about two years old and a bit of a basal bulge, previously crown lifted by builders to about 40ft.. is it trying to tell me something? Ed.

oh its TPO'd and has a couple of houses it would take out if it wanted, i originally went to look at it because it was groaning (in pain haha), that was quickly diagnosed as rubbing branches which are coming off when the wind/rain goes away along with a few dead lumps.

ill buy the trunk off you nice big 10ft lenth is you can lift it

but can i justify a tpo application to remove it based on the findings so far? why is the bark peeling more than usual?

pictures would help if you have any, has it got any signs of black spores under the bark resembling soot?

1st pic-its the tree on the right, 2nd pic-bark on floor from this week, 3rd pic-base of tree, i'll nip back and get better pics of stem (it looks loads worse at the other side). if i remember right where the bark had come off it was reddish and cracked into small blocks (like tiny pear bark).

whats the crown like ed? i know old sycamores do tend to flake a bit, i seen one a lot older and bigger which was peeling worse than that but was fine
