problem with lombardy pop (help)

iv bin asked to take out a lombardy poplar its quit a size at the base (4ft) and it got polarded 4 years ago.

iv given a price to remove it (he is a builder)

now he wants me to remove it over 2 years as he is worryed about the building next to the tree (gound becoming wet as the tree ent taken the water out the ground and roots rotting will make that ground unstable) any thought on this all this is well over my head im after some advice please cheers martin

depends what the soil type is if its clay you could get clay heave where the clay gets wet and expands
