Timberwolf 125ph rotor

Hi,

I'm currently in the middle of trying to access the fan sections on the back of the rotor on my 125 machine. I've got as far as removing the rear bearing housing but seem unable to get any joy in trying to remove the rotor itself? Have seen a similar post on here where you said that the rotor might be welded as one unit with the nose shaft, it all depends on the serial number. The number for my chipper is 2051901...hopefully it's the cheaper option?

 

basically just need to get the rotor off so i can get to the fan sections (one of the fins has some damage and have been advised to change both sections at the same time as they need to be close in weight to stop excessive wear/damage on the bearings? sounds logical to me but thought i'd check with you just to make sure??)

just noticed i didn't quite finish the serial number of my chipper, should be 20519017.

 

one other quick question, is it worth replacing the 3 sets of bearings while i've got the machine stripped down this far, chipper is a 2005 model and has the original bearings as far as i know?

Thanks for the serial number , that is a great help in identification of the parts fitted.

to answere the last questions first, if you are stripping the machine down it is better to replace the bearings at this time asyou can give all the bearing surfaces a clean and also can check the shafts are not worn.

You have a split shaft fitted(latest option)

 

To remove the rotor completly you must take off the Front Plate from the rotor housing and (assuming that you have removed the drive train pulley and the hydraulic pump pulley) as you have already removed the 4 bolts from the rear housing this should enable you to lift out the rotor and front plate assembly.

To remove the front plate undo the 2 bolts holding the front bearing housing, with this removed the front plate should lift off.

Whoever told you to replace the fan sections as a pair is totally correct as they are weight matched at the factory.

The rotor has to be balanced if the fans are replaced, when you remove each of the 3 bolts holding each section please ensure that the same bolt with the same number of washers are put back in the same hole, this will aid the balancing process.

When you tighten up the bolts please use a calibrated torque wrench and set it to 30 lbs ft and do all the bolts up then set it to 40 lbs ft and retighten them set to 50 lbs ft then retighten again, by doing it in three stages it stops inputting stresses into the casting.

When replacing the 2 x front bearings ensure that the shims that are already installed are re installed.

When you have re assembled the rotor the torque setting for the front bearing nut is 65lbs ft

When you re assemble the front plate to the rotor housing the torque setting for the M12 nuts is 65lbs ft

Please check to ensure that there is free movement on the rotor when installed.

Please check the alignment of the pulleys when replacing them as this is very important.
