Nice site and a good idea with the patterns. I think the proportions are the hardest thing to get your head round when starting out.

When I was doing my first chainsaw carving (standing eagle) I stood back and thought that it looked like a pigeon. I began to undestand the importance of understanding the anatomy of animals. I realized the importance of proportions when first blocking out, The rest seems to come from the saw!
