to my surprise the defective cylinder has more compression than the good one :thumbup1:

I have about 120 psi/sqinch on the bad one and 100 psi on the good one.

 

And of course the difference between the two is not serious in this case since it's a V-Twin! The higher pressure on the "cold" cylinder might be due to coking up. I can't remember what the pressures were on mine but I will test them and post them on here (warm engine of course)...

Just a thought but it could be a defective ignition module/plug and the white smoke would be unburnt fuel. I had a GXV where the spark broke down at certain revs. take the plug lead off and run it, if it sounds the same as before, you'll know its an ignition problem.

 

Yes I thought of that myself. I am waiting for the paper carb gaskets to arrive, I will have them next week. Will test the sparks.
