log splitter ram size?

I missed out on that ram anyway. When you say a bore of 3" do you mean the piston diameter or the overall diameter? I was looking at ones with a50mm piston and overall 100mm?

 

That sound fine - the smaller the chrome rod the more power the ram will have on the return stroke but most splitters require very little force for this.The chrome rod needs to be a sufficient diameter not to bend so any thing above 40mm should be O.K(unless its a very long ram)

Surely the ram stroke is crucial during the design phase? If the stroke is too long then it will be trying to split itself in half . . .

 

My splitter stops with just under 5cm left before hitting the wedge.

Hello.  You have said your splitter ram shaft is 50mm diameter.  Have you found a splitter head to fit this ram?  I am searching for one or two. Thanks.  Steve

.. you might get an answer, but last visit 2014, I wouldn't hold my breath. However someone else might have something else suitable
