Paramo for me. UK company, who don't do Gore Tex-

they do their own very tough, waterproof and breathable kit. They don't advertise much, but the amount of Coastguard and Mountain Rescue types that use Paramo might tell you something. I've got one of their Velez smocks, it's a great shape and a lovely all round jacket.

Edit: RRP is £160 but I've seen them at under £100

In my profile I am modelling a 10 year old Craghoppers Waterproof with no front zip. I have re waterproofed this jacket loads of times. It keeps you dry all day and is lovely to climb in but it seems to absorb the water rather than repel it now and takes ages to dry. Some times I climb in a buffalo mountain shirt (it wasnt intended for work but was to difficult to walk past it one wet morning), these are lovely for the winter. The pertex outer on them rips really easily but is reparable.

I think mountaineering clothing is the way to go.
