Crack in tree

Hi guys,

I have a small green ash tree that I just noticed a crack in it. The tree is about 20ft high and 10in DBH. The crack runs for about 5 ft and spirals around the tree. It biggest opening is about 2cm. The crack doesn't meet in the middle at any point.

My first thought was removal and still is. The HO would love to keep it so I thought about bolting it. I do not want to waste time and money for the HO. the bolting would be more then the removal(easy drop and chip).

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the responses. I'll work on the pics. Maybe a few days. The targets are a shed, fence and a public walk way on the otherside of fence. The tree is leaning away from the path towards the shed. I don't think it would actually harm the shed if it failed(as of now).

Now that I right this and think of the path(target) I may have answered my own question. But still looking for opinions. Always learning.

Thanks.
