Sharpening Husqvarna 455 Rancher

I have a Husqvarna 455 rancher and bought this to help me sharpen it: Husqvarna 505 69 81-25 Chainsaw Chain File Kit 325

It works fine and gives me a nice sharp chain but I've noticed that when I use it the sharp edge I get is at a slightly different angle to wear line at the back of the tooth. Is that ok or have I bought the wrong one?

Hope that makes sense.

Dave

It sounds like operator error TBH not the file.....its the way you are doing it!!

The file should be running parallel to the wear mark on the top of the tooth, and at 90 degrees to the bar. (some chains the file runs at 10 degrees up or don from the 90). TBH unless it is drastically different to the wear marks i wouldnt worry.

Thanks for that. Could well be me... :)

What you do is put the wee thing over the bar and then what I'm doing is sharpening it so that my file runs parallel with the edges of the thing that goes over the bar. Not sure if I should just be running the file in line with the wear mark.

Yeah the wear mark is parallel with the cutting edge. Those gadgets are probably all slightly different, as are the filing angles of various makes and pitches of chains.I tend to use the file holder like this:Google Image Result for http://www.clark-engineering.com/media/uploads/cat-149/oregon-file-holder-165.jpg which is really all you need....
