Interesting.....

the shot by Tony Leech in the link shows the Fomes on Birch.

Wonder if this was taken in Norfolk ?

That association is relatively rare in it's self for the lower parts of the Uk, normally found on Beech & Oak down South & Birch in the North.

Saying that, we've found Fomes on Birch both at Hampstead & Wimbledon.

So perhaps there is a shift in it's range on species that are area specific.

Don't recall any Fomes on my jaunts around the Felbrigg area (specially in relation to all the Beech) , but will go have a looksee in the files.

Plenty of Amanitas in the files from the area, but no muscaria

Just clocked these in Horsford while trying to walk off my homebrew hangover - only cam phone pictures but that shape is pretty characteristic. Will email some better ones and the grid ref off to NBIS later.

Struggling to make out from your fine shots, old boy. Do they happen to reside on Beech or Birch ? :blushing:

Leaning toward Birch.................which is interesting !

Now I'm often to be found in the Eastern Angles, one will have to keep one's eyes peeled for said missing fung
