TW150 brake overhaul

I tried adjusting up the brakes on the road wheels today as they were getting non-existant and the handbrake was going right up.

 

Could not get the adjuster to adust properly, so took a wheel off thinking I could take the drum off and check the brakeshoe etc, but could not see how it all came apart.

 

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Al

With an Alko axle, the first thing is to slacken off the brake adjuster at the rear of the hub, tap off centre hub cap, undo the centre hub nut, this will remove the hub, take care when removing not to dismantle the liner and spring assy, perform any service requirements inside the unit ie renewing brake liners, clean out etc then reverse assemble the unit.

The hub nut should be tightened up 219 NM using a calibrated torque wrench.

Inspect and check brake cables to ensure they are free and have no kinks, then adjust up the drum by the adjuster at the back hub should rotate with a very slight resistance when adjusted correctly. Test brakes by the application of hand brake.

 

If you have any doubts or are unsure of the procedure or techniques to be used please take the unit to an authorised TW dealer for repair / adjustment.
