so... my other half has just handed me 3 A4 sheets of what he claims to be a visual tree inspection on a large property ...it's my job as desk wench to decipher and translate it into something that looks suitably presentable for the client :001_rolleyes:

...does anyone have a standard template for visual tree inspections please? or could anyone tell me the kind of information beyond the basics that I may not have thought of.

Treelife do a one day report writing course. I am sure that this would more than pay itself back in the due course of 'charged for' tree assessments.

I have retracted by criticisms of Hamadryad as I felt I was being too hard nosed about it, but I do genuinely feel that if businessess out there are charging for VTA, BS5837 reports etc, then they should have trained themselves in how to compile a professional report.

I dont see how it is any different to someone coming on here and posting that they are charging for practical tree work, without having the basic pre-required skills to complete the job to the industry recognised standard. We would be the first to tell them that they were in the wrong, and they were damaging the industry.

That is fair comment, but what you fail to see is the good karma in helping those further down the chain on raising thier own bar.

i have been helped by some of the top guns in this industry, without recompence that is the difference between truly great men and those who fear competition.

this is a common theme in the middle ranks, its a shame cos it is a key to the establishment of "them and us" mentality.

as long as those with knowledge hold it close to thier chests, they will always be held in contempt.

knowledge comes with responsibility,

You are absolutely right. Yes I am of the generation who fear competition.

I dont know if you saw the news report the other day that highlighted that many employers are only considering those with a 2.1 degree or higher and that there are an average 67 applications per job.

Therefore, those of us that are aiming to carve out a career following a course of education are faced with massive competition. Also, who isnt fed up of being undercut by those clearly not competing on an even playing field?

Anyhoo....massive derail of this thread. Sorry.

A man who is truly secure in his abilities does not fear competition, for he is able to stand on his own merits, if your good at what you do it will show, and there would be no reason to fear.

as for competition, it is a healthy thing, it drives us to be better, to be different and to excel in what we do.

Imagine if all our customers understood trees half as well as we do....

we would have to raise our bar in order to be the experts once more, that is the beauty of knowledge, when shared it drives it further and faster.:thumbup1:

And as for the level playing field, i am on a degree course, I am 4 k behind on my mortgage, and have spent everylast penny I have on books and courses for the last thrree years. if i am not trying to play on the same field as you i must be doing something wrong!
