just needed some advice. got a few ash takedowns tomorrow. one of the trees am taking down has a big lean. about30 cm stem width and the crown is full of dead wood. just need some advice on spiking up a lean stem. the stem lean angle would be between 50-60% lean angle.

any help i would be greatfull

Could be worth a bob or two then:lol:

2m is quite short for a lanyard, especially double wrapping it round a stem. Can you make a longer one out of some spare rope?

Top side of lean is the easy way.

The alternative would be throwline, and footlock or srt right past all the ivy, simples.

am sure i wil figure it out. just bonused a brand spanking new pairs of spikes from an electric board worker. so that should keep me secure lol. cheers for the help

Try not to get too involved with the Ivy. I know its hard to explain but you need to be climbing round/over it not through it. And if you start clearing it to make life easier you will be there forever. Get to the top asap and unzip it on your way down. from a leaning stem it should all fall off like a big jacket if you unzip the top side, obviosly old pegs and branches will make it cling on longer.

If at all possible I like to tie in to another tree, obviously if there isn't one then rupe's advice is the best course of action, but having a rope to one side, even if your other anchor is level with you, will make things much much easier.:001_smile:
