Digital tree/ecology tours via PDA and chip tagging!

Recommended Posts

I am really excited about the possabilities made real by this technology.

getting kids these days to not only go out and enjoy nature but to become excited and enjoy learning about it is something myself and some friends are VERY keen to maximise.

this technology has some real legs and i imagine one day not to far away being able to digitise a nature trail utilising a PDA with GIS capability and a Microchip scanner.

This will empower the children of the tech age to remain firmly tech, whilst also developing their "natural empathy" imagine being able to take a gruop of kids into a woodland or ecologicaly interesting site all of them with a GIS PDA with scanner connected, so as they walk and talk info is fed to them via chips in locations and trees regarding the nature, species info, ecology or tree details. this could even be set up as a kind of treasure hunt scenario, and get them really into it, like geo caching!:thumbup1:

of course there is huge potential for us too, and pear technology appears to have some option for these RFID chips (radio frequency identification)

a guy i used to work with set up audiotrails, and he has pioneered things like bluetooth info points and wifi data parcels so when people are near something interesting they can get the info on their mobiles, amazing technology and gets people well involved as most now have built in data transfer available in most mobile phones, we had them for remote trails over moorland to give you a virtual guided tour at your own pace.
