I don't mind those type of jobs at all. I just explain it's £25 an hour from when I arrive until when I leave when the jobs finished. Ie they pay for me going to get a post or panel, repair spike whatever.

 

I find people can be a bit reluctant to start with until they realise how much I get done in that time, and how much goes into little jobs. The others that want it stupidly cheap can have bill and ben the fencing men in!!

 

I think £20-£25 if fair do most of my work on price thou people seem to prefer that around here

Hope the council round there isn't as strict with planning laws as ours. We did an almost identical job to that, but in reverse. Customer had it done, council decided to enforce the ' no wall or fence above 1.2m adjacent to a road' rule, and we charged them to reduce it back down.

 

The customer did fight it but got to the point where council said they would send someone round to knock it down and they would be charging for the service.

 

I'm no planning expert, just letting you know what its like round here.

I checked as it's in a conservation and regeneration area, and they said as long as it's in keeping they're happy, and there are a few others that are higher.

I think theres bigger problems with derelict houses round there for them to be worrying about a fence. Hopefully anyway.........

You made the effort to ask before you did it, thats more than a lot would do.

Anyway, if they do get told to take it down you can charge them for that as well:thumbup1:

 

I've done a couple of jobs like that before, but at the speed I lay bricks 20 quid an hour would work out about a fiver a brick:blushing:

Done a little clearing and grave digging job for a customer today. He needed his patio re-laid, made a comment that some people wanted as much as he earnt as a professional. To which I joked depended what sort of pro he was. Told me he had found a good bloke at £80 a day + £5 for a laborer. This I thought was a bit cheap no way I would lay slabs for that.

The problem with paving is its all in the preparation. The cheap bloke might look like he's good, but the customer may change his opinion next year when the paving moves and he was weeds growing out of the mortar joints.

£80 quid a day is a decent labourers wage, or someone employed, ie hasn't got to find the work source materials, provide their own transport and tools etc.

 

If someone wants to do if for that fair play to them, if there any good I'll sub the work to them!!
