I'd be more than happy with that as a first attempt.

 

Anna, I know quite a few park rangers that have been carving since well before carving bars were invented. I haven't got a carving bar either. Have a go and use the same amount of common sense and caution as you do when using a saw normally.

Thats dam good for first attempt! So you didn't use a carving bar then? I want to have a go but didn't think it was safe to do without bar?

 

You dont need a carving bar, although it is better for the finishing cuts to have one. Just watch out for the kick-back zone when carving.

I wanted to do more but as i said broke the spring on my clutch! I would reccomend a smaller bar though 20 " is a little dificult. The next door neighbour wanted me do do one for her but as I had no saw i got away with it! :wave: haven't got a clue what i would have charged anyway?
