Processing some firewood today and the guy that helps me noticed that several of the Bars that we processed were infested with large white grubs about 1" long 2.5cm and about 5mm in diameter there must have been upwards of 30 in one of the bars. Stupidly I did not get a photo as had left phone at home. They seemed to have "plugged" the hole behind them with sawdust. Anybody got any idea as to what they were?

PS It was softwood they were in.:confused1:

Yeah sounds like wood wasp. They like jap larch in my experience.......I kept milling the grubs, and sometimes the developed wasps.

I was pretty gutted when i found out what they were, as i was told they are quite rare.....not sure if thats right though aas i have seen alot of them, or rather, i have killed alot:blushing:

They are pretty stunning creatures though, and incredibly loud when they fly. I had the sawmill running, on idle, and one was flying around about a couple of yards away, and before i realised what it was i thought something had worked loose on the engine!!
