Hi Steve,

I'll probably be long retired for climbing then - but my Dad will still be at it - I'll tell him to look out for you : )

or if you fancy giving it a go before then let me know.

Pete

ive always fancied a go at that......i threatened to enter a regular climbing comp for 8 years and finally did just last year....so perhaps 8 years from now!

Unfortunately there is no Newark show this year -

there are plenty of other events though - you're welcome to come and try again - wee can show you the techniques but don't bring the Royal Marine sergeant : )

had a go at the newark show a few years ago, first time i had worn spikes, nightmare, took me about 5 mins, royal marine sergeant tried it and gave up..... very hard work if you are new to the techniques.

The official world record is 9.6 seconds - which is pretty quick, but we don't mention it as it's held by an Aussie.

If you can climb a tree you'd get to the top - maybe not a record time, but you could work on it.

What is the world record ed, is it around 12 secs?

Just curious as I dont suppose theres any point in me having a go against the clock! Unless someone could hold a few stone of mine while i tried:heeeelllllooooo:

good question Mr. Ed I honestly don't know if there is even an official record for it - if not it's up for grabs - come and have a go and get it for yourself.

Current record is below 10 seconds, but thats on toe spikes. Totally different style, you can run up the pole. Not sure what the record is on conventional spikes.

Yes it is and yes he was.

We're working on a similar idea where we attach the safety rope to the back of a truck and floor it.

We just need someone willing to be attached to the other end and the new record is theirs. : )

Is that Mark Bryden?

I think i saw a vid somewhere of him being pulled to the bell by the Australian national rowing team or some similar "belaying" team!
