DIY cambium saver?

I've bought a cocoon to overcome any snagging problems. I do know the pulleys like the fixe aren't designed for this. Their rating is only 7kn downwards on the roller, where it is 22 upwards, the way i use it is is not bearing a load. It is there to tend up my friction hitch.

As said earlier in the thread, it is my life hanging off this!

it wasn't your fixe i was refering to. Many >22kn micro pulleys are plenty strong enough but the bearings/ bushes are not designed for prolonged use and wear v.quickley The cocoon on the other hand is designed as a main anchor.

I understand that. I wanted to do this out of kit that was designed for the job. As I don't have money to buy oodles of shiny toys. I try to keep each piece of kit specific to different tasks. So then everything is being used evenly and I'm getting my moneys worth. Instead of using a couple of thesame pieces and wearing out half of my kit and having another half that I can't use because I've worn out everything to use them with!

I get the whole gear junkie thing, no seriously i do, i love shiny things too!

But christ you lads like over complicating your climbing gear!

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and the more links the more chance of a weak one.

Why did any of you move away from a simple elderid style two ringed strap type cambium saver?

Why do you prefer the complicated or fancy hitches compaired to say a helical wrap?

There is less friction in the pulley. makes for easier moving around. I still use the standard ring ring cambium saver if there are tighter looking crotches as it retrieves easier.

There are more links in the chain and more potential failure points.

Why do people prefer fancy things? development and some improvement (not always without comprimise) and people lke to play and experiment.

Yep like i said I get it, but i do love the old saying "if it aint broke dont fix it" i guess I just like to be worrying about my job at hand rather than having to constantly adjust or get used to or worry about new gear all the time, THAT is the bit I dont get, but I keep watching this stuff. One day I will see something that makes sense to me, im old school and like simple functional stuff i guess.

i climb on a knut, like how simple it is, not too confident with the temperamental nature of a VT.

i would still happily use basic kit, but its nice to have a spare for two anchor points, makes both friction free!

I carry a short lyons tape strop and dmm revolver as a redirect, it also makes a really good rope attachment to long skinny, particulary euc, poles that have no brush for fott or rope holds
