I thought that I had been taught everything I needed to know about this subject but can somebody please tell me what is going on here, and looking at the subjects five minutes later, still going on!

I think yes they are, and as the male dies afterwards, he want's it  to last as long as he can. 

this is why you never see a male bee leaning on one elbow smoking a cigarette after mating.:thumbup:
