Probably over-thinking but I have had a lot of ash and most is good lengths so has been stored under cover but I had a crate to fill so I cut/split some smaller pieces and found a few had sign of disease (I presume).

Is it something nasty or just indicative of die back and should I just process and burn it ASAP ? We don't need to but if it was likely to go to mush then we would use it first.

Many thanks. 20250709_100002.thumb.jpg.00303e2940fa967a474bf5d03081f376.jpg

It is mould growth, whether precipitated by ash dieback or just ordinary invasion of wet cut wood.

Get it split and seasoned below 20% mc and it will get no further, left in the round and it will affect the dry matter calorific value.

Many thanks for the reply, it was cut earlier in the year so probably due to die back, I only split a couple of lengths so I had a full crate but I have a fair amount in the round so I will have to get a scurry on and get it cut and split.
