TW13/75g Anvil service

Hello all, I'm new to the forum!

 

I bought a TW13/75g recently at auction (ex-hire machine), 2006 vintage, to help me sort out some trees around the garden. I tested it and it ate a few sticks! Engine running well. I checked the blade - it is very dull with a few minor pits/dings, but lots of material before approaching the wear line, so I think getting it sharpened is on the cards. (advice of where to get it nice hollow ground in the North East of England would be appreciated.)

 

I also had a look at the anvil, and it seems rounded over, and the gap between it and the blade looks to be a few mm! I checked the instruction manual, and it is adamant that the anvil turning or replacement is a dealer job. Having got this via auction to reduce spends, and since it is well out of warranty, I would like to have a go at anvil replacement myself. Some things I understand:

 - These are installed with high-strength threadlock, so will likely need some heat to loosen.

 - I will need to remove the hopper to get access to the anvil on this machine.

 - I will need to re-install to a specific torque

 - That there should be a setting for the  correct gap between the anvil and blade when properly installed.

 

So my question - does anyone have instructions for changing the anvil on these, or any recommendations/procedures. For example, what should the anvil bolts be torqued too? (I have a digital torque meter.) Does a dealer use shims to set the anvil to blade gap, or how is this done? What should the gap between the anvil and blade be? (I read for other machines 0.5 to 0.9 mm is good). I know to reassemble with high strength/permanent threadlock. Is there a really good reason that I absolutely MUST take it to a dealer for a new anvil? 

 

Any help on this matter greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! Have you used search function and browsed old threads? Lot to learn there, I'd also suggest searching the Timberwolf 18/100 which has similar blade/anvil setup and used by more professionals starting out than the 13/75.

 

Finally, worth ringing Timberwolf and asking them. They're only in Suffolk, can only say no.
