hi I'm currently doing my level 2 arb should complete it in next cpl of months, planning to do the level 3 nxt. i looked at the Proffesional tree inspection but I'm obviously not qualified or ready to do that yet, i see there is an intermediate course, but  its not an actuall qualification. What else should i be doing on working towards the tree inspection side of things? i see the isa cert arborist mentioned a lot.  cheers any advice much appreciated.

Do the level 4 and 5 and 6 if you can. Tree life and a few colleges offer it.

The reality of doing surveys is that the fun bit is in the field. The hard work is writing it all up so you.might as well do the academic side.

Look up the PTI book list. Read it get out and look at trees. You need to be good at tree ID, being excellent helps. You need to know your common decay fungi. Spent your free time learning. Spend your work time learning. If you have the level 2 Arb then then ISA exam is the same level.  But more info in it than a city and guilds qualification. Exams are a few times a year

Book yourself a lantra basic trees inspection and go from there.

To this day the PTI is the hardest course I've done.

It is all in building the knowledge, botanical names, identification etc. Having the Basic Tree Inspection is a good start. We offer a C&G Level 3 Certificate in Forestry and Arboriculture covering Tree Identification, Planting and Aftercare, Tree Pests, Diseases & Disorders and Tree Survey & Inspection; our students find this a good stepping stone towards studying further towards their Professional Tree Inspection. If you were interested then get in touch at [email protected] or on 01822 832232. All our training is classroom based and in and around the Cornwall/Devon border.
