Help with newly planted Dogwoods

Question

Hi,

This time last year we planted 2 similarly sized and aged Dogwoods. One looks pretty good and the other is quite thin. There are leaves but smaller and lots of dead looking branches. I watered equally once per week during the warm months, though there may have been more runoff on the thinner one, which could be the cause of the problem. Should I worry about the thin one? A few weeks ago we fertilized with acid loving plant fertilizer and have mulched. Anything else I can/should do other than water weekly during the warm months?

Thanks!

Can't see much from the pictures so hard to say what the problem is.

Transplant shock etc as  trees of such size sometimes need alot of tlc for up to  5 yrs  until established and it has to be done right for a maximum chance fo them to thrive.

Could be waterlogging with the recent UK weather.

See many struggling trees about at new planting schemes on new build estates or developments & often times 50% plus are dead or dying.
