Soft wood burs

Recommended Posts

Hello all, acquired 4 roughly 12-20” burs today but they’re from a hybrid poplar, do these have any use/value to wood turners or is it strictly hardwoods only?

also will have some roughly 30” yew stem logs coming in and will be cut at 36” long. Does anyone know what sort of value these hold or if anyone would be interested let me know.

Thanks all! 7B011E6F-EBD4-454E-B9AE-BACF15DE3D40.thumb.jpeg.8d9250f90ca42412953ead2cbf4e504f.jpeg

Yes they do have a value.  Not huge but I find burrs always sell quick regardless of species.  Poplar is a hardwood anyway....

I had some horse chestnut burrs years ago - sold in a flash.  I would probably ask £15 each for the ones in the photo, though it is difficult to judge without handling them.  But I have many different sorts of woodworkers visiting me and I know someone would spot them.  This is the challenge - getting them in front of the right person.
