Most appropriate free paint for log ends to prevent cracking

As in, I can get a much free paint, and  perfectly legitimately too, from our local C A site(aka the skip bay) I did a wee recce today and blagged a selection(as did Senior Management for her craft projects stash, sigh)

So kinda know to rule out emulsion, and watery fence defence type products, plus old fashioned oil based paints are thin on the ground, so was thinking masonry paint?

Being exterior and high solids.

Thoughts

P.S.

Too mean(and I don't even know the cost) to buy SBR.

Hey, free is hard to beat.
