These fiskars are excellent and a neat result  can be obtained by taking the time to use the head at the appropriate angle, plus standing at the right angle for the each cut.
They can be further utilised on a set of tripod step ladders, as others have said.

Tripods ladder are good   but being 4.5m that will need the the biggest 12ft tripod that costs £600  and still be abit short?

Tripod ladder plus short pole lopper?

ARS made a good & big range of  different types and lengths of pole loppers etc.

Or the wolf garten pole  lopper - u can change the angle.

Better if they initially  were pollarded at a more sensible height - lower  than 4.5m.......

Can get tripod ladders up to 16ft with adjustable legs makes 17 1/2 ft.

I have the 8ft and 14ft and they cover most bases. Still got my eye on the 16ft though as we always want bigger tools than we have!

I use the fiskars loppers, silky hayauchi and 7.7m hayate, both with the sintung lopper head and saw

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I did consider the platforms  but the costs are too prohibitive.

I'm thinking to buy a polesaw (looked at the ryobi Rpp750s) to bring the polard height lower as has been suggested. Then see if it works OK with new branches next winter. If not I can go back to the ladder approach but with an easier height. I do already have a manual pole cutter too which is quite hard work to use and have to stand on highest step ladder level. But may be easier with lower overall height of tree too
