Minimum Axle load for forwarder tracks

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

I was wondering if anyone here had experience with applying for planning permission for forwarder tracks? Couldn’t find the required minimum axle load for these types of tracks anywhere, proper forestry roads are meant to take 44t lorries, but I suppose the tracks require less?

Would appreciate some guidance if anyone knows the answer to that!

Cheers

Hello,

please see the attached guidance, You will need planning permission and there is also a chance of a grant under Countryside Protection at 40%. For my own forwarder tracks I used 200mm of base stone topped with 50mm of crushed stone.

Axle weight is one consideration, i.e the greater the weight the deeper the stone should be, also what are your ground conditions, is it wet bog or sandy soil.

hope this helps
